 abstract={Port activities are geographically concentrated in a limited number of regions, mainly because of favourable geographic conditions. These regions attract a substantial number of port related firms. Seaports are naturally born clusters. Cluster environment stimulates competitiveness and competition inside a cluster and industry. Some competitiveness problems are at the pure level of business entities’ co-operation and business integration in the Freeport of Riga. Cluster environment stimulates the integrated development of all the business entities within a cluster. Cluster concept is applied to enhance the understanding of the performance of a seaport.
