 abstract={The implementation of the Real Plan in July 1994 triggered profound structural changes in the Brazilian financial system. Lowering inflation caused that banks lost the part of their inflationary revenues, which results in deterioration of their financial situation. This article discusses restructuring programme, which were implemented as a response to the deterioration of financial situation of Brazilian banking system. Thanks to it, the country was preserved from conversion the problems of individual banks in the systemic banking crisis.},
